Residents and community partners joined forces at Brunswick Village Community Space on 1 October to deliver a lively programme of demonstrations, activities and information all for the benefit of older people in the neighbourhood.
S4B hosted the event in partnership with Age UK Manchester and resident Rob Burgess. Rob’s demonstration of robot companions proved a major hit with attendees, while he also shared information about his art for the mind and social media for beginners classes.
S4B repair team, Mears were present distributing information and offering advice on repairs, damp, mould and condensation etc. Other community partners also joined the celebration including the Wai Yin Centre who delivered a Tai Chi display, adding an active and engaging element to the day. Arawak Walton Housing Association were on hand to offer housing advice and the Neighbourhood Health Champions gave blood pressure checks, information on vaccinations along with health screening on the day. The event was rounded off with a delicious lunch courtesy of Brunswick Village Bistro.
Rob, 74, said: “The event was a huge success and I’m immensley proud of what we have achieved by working together. It was a great turnout and residents really engaged with what was on offer. I have signed up more customers for the weekly classes, all made possible by the S4B High-5 community fund.
“The interest in the robot companions is more than we could have wished for and we will certainly be building on the results of the events’ success”.
