On Wednesday, 18th March, S4B, launched its first Inspiring People of Brunswick Awards, a true celebration for the community who make the neighbourhood such a special place to live and work.

Last year, we asked the people of Brunswick to nominate someone they feel deserves to be recognised for the positive difference they make to the neighbourhood, whether it be kindness, support, bravery or commitment. All nominees were invited along to a special event to celebrate their achievements.

Councillor Tina Hewitson led the festivities and said:

“I have been a ward councillor in Brunswick for over twelve years, and I feel very privileged to have been asked here today to present these special awards. Like myself I can see lots of familiar faces of people who have been involved in the neighbourhood for many years, either born and bred or moved to the area as part of the regeneration.

“One word sums it up for me, longevity – people are so proud of the area and once they choose Brunswick as a place to live or work, they remain here for many years and probably many more years to come”.

Director of Leasehold and Supported Housing at Onward Homes Sally Watts said:

“Brunswick is a unique and special neighbourhood, which is reflected in the inspiring people that we had chance to celebrate at the awards. What stood out to me is the strength of community spirit and the passion of those living here to make a positive difference in the area.  Well done to everyone involved – you are all very worthy nominees!”

Brunswick resident and tenants and residents’ association committee member, Debbie Ellison, who was nominated for her dedication, motivation and energy, added:

“I am thrilled to receive this award. I have been a resident here in Brunswick for over 36 years and a committee member for about 20 years.

“I am fiercely proud of the area, my home, and I do all I can to keep it such a special place to live and work. To receive this certificate is a real honour, thanks so much, it means a lot!”
