OVER FIVE HUNDRED residents turned out again this year to enjoy the ever popular day of free fun on Manchester’s Brunswick estate.

Families were treated to everything from chain-saw art to tasty food at the annual event, organised by Friends of Gartside Gardens community group (FOGGGS) and supported by S4B Manchester – the consortium behind the £106m transformation of Brunswick.

And this year, the fun-day returned to Gartside Gardens Park, so everyone could enjoy the newly revamped area, with new landscaping, plants, shrubs and the installation of a new playground for the youngsters. New sports pitches and lighting have also been added.

Delicious delights to suit every taste bud was provided, courtesy of S4B scheme manager Donna Shaw, who had been hard at work to make the treats.

S4B staff were on hand to pot-a-plant with residents, who could choose a cutting of their choice to pot and take home with them, and the bouncy castles were a hit with the kids.

Other fun activities (on Saturday 13th August) included face painting, balloon character making and a rodeo bull were among the many highlights, and Karl the Chainsaw artists paid another visit to demonstrate his unique wood carving techniques.

And residents were able to gain first hand experience of wonderful Birds of Prey who visted the fair again this year.

Craig Eastham, Chair of the Friends of Gartside Gardens and event organiser, said: “Our annual party event is a great way of bringing members of the local community together.

“And, we are so pleased to be back the park this year, it’s a great space with so much on offer for the whole family.

“Thanks to the staff from S4B for all of their help in making this event possible. We hope to continue to make this a permanent fixture in people’s diaries for many more years to come. It really was a wonderful day and we are already looking forward to what 2017’s event will bring”.

S4B is the consortium set up to deliver the 25-year £111m regeneration project in Brunswick which started in January 2014. The consortium is made up of four specialist organisations – Contour Homes, Mears, Galliford Try and Equitix.

The work will see over 500 new family homes plus refurbished homes and roads – as well as improvements to many green space areas over the next 25 years.
