RESIDENTS in Brunswick, Manchester have been brushing up on their IT and digital skills at special events to celebrate National Get Online Week.
It is estimated over seven million people in the UK aren’t online and 11 million don’t have the skills or confidence to make the most of the opportunities the internet has to offer.
S4B, the consortium driving the 25 regeneration plans in Brunswick, offered help last week to those who wanted to learn more about the benefits of getting online.
Over 40 people attended the digital workshops held at Brunswick Church and Elizabeth Yarwood Court – and residents were encouraged to pick up a range of skills, from browsing the web to completing an online application form.
Ross Hemmings, S4B Community Regeneration Manager said: “It has been great to be able to help our residents access the free internet services available here in Brunswick.
“We are thrilled to see so many people here and we hope that it will encourage others to find out the benefits of getting online.”
Mo Blue, Community Coordinator at Brunswick Church community Hub added, “It has been great to see such a range of people taking their first step to using a computer”.
