Report fly-tipping

What is fly-tipping?

Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of rubbish.

Fly-tipping:

• Can cause pollution and contaminate land.

• Can affect our health

• Can endanger our wildlife

• Is unsightly, spoiling our communities and the quality of life for local residents.

• Encourages others to dump more waste.

Who pays for fly-tipping?

We all do. Every year, it costs Council Tax Payers around £300,000 to clear waste dumped illegally on public land in Manchester.

Tip us off:

Please report fly tipping as soon as possible to our “Tip-Off” line 0300 555 0128 or complete our online form https://s4bmanchester.co.uk/contact-us/general-contact-form/

How to report it:

• Safety first – do not confront fly-tippers.

• Do not look for clues in the waste yourself, as there may be harmful items hidden in it.

• Keep any notes you make at the time, even scribbled ones, which can be very valuable as evidence.

• Take photos if safe to do so.

Alternatively you can report it to Manchester City Council and search ‘fly tipping’

Manchester City Council will investigate incidents, to catch and prosecute offenders. If convicted of fly-tipping you could be fined up to £50,000 and up to 1 year in prison

*Any information supplied will be treated in strictest confidence in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

Win!

Any S4B residents who report fly tipping will automatically be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win £50 worth of shopping vouchers.

In December 2018, S4B and Manchester City Council waste management team visited properties in all four high-rise blocks, Lockton, Lamport, Silkin and Artillery Court, to discuss recycling.

Manchester City Council are implementing improvements to waste management across the city to meet targets set by the Government.

We all need to do our bit and by doing so we are helping the environment by reducing landfill and money saved can be invested in other services for your benefit.

This leaflet explains what you can and can’t recycle and shows you what goes into which colour bin.
