Looking after your Neighbourhood

We work with local residents, schools and a wide range of partner agencies and local community groups to help create a positive and lasting impact within our neighbourhood.

Our Neighbourhood Team are responsible for:

  • Working closely within our neighbourhood to monitor and assess any impacts to the environment.
  • Carrying out scheme inspections to assess the external environment on your scheme and to make recommendations on how improvements can be made.
  • Tenancy Audits give you the opportunity to play an important part in our management and decision making process and helps us to improve our services.  
  • Our Caretaking team are responsible for the cleanliness and general maintenance of all the communal areas across the estate.

RECYCLE RIGHT!
Everyone needs to play their part in putting the correct items in the correct colour bin. Not everything goes in the black bin, so please take a look at this handy guide to check what goes where. If you are still unsure please get in touch and we can talk you through it. Please do not contaminate the bins by putting items in the wrong bin.

Here is a reminder of what and how you should recycle by putting the correct waste items in the correct bins. More and more waste is just being put in the general waste bins which is taking us over our limit and costing us all money.

Which bin?
The following items go into your:

Brown bin
Empty plastic bottles, pots, tubs & trays, empty foil & foil trays, empty aerosols, tins, cans, glass bottles and jars.

Blue bin
Egg boxes, telephone directories and catalogues, flyers and leaflets, cardboard greetings cards, bus or train tickets, newspapers, magazines, comics and waste paper.

Green bin
Cut flowers, meat and fish-bones, plate scrapings, cooked and raw meat, bread products, Tea-bags, dairy products, eggshells, fruit and veg peelings.

Black bin
The following items CANNOT be recycled so should be placed in the black general waste bin along with anything not included in the lists above. Plastic film and bubble wrap, coffee cups, plastic bags, polystyrene, nappies and bottle tops.

Any loose food and refuse, including nappies etc should be bagged up and securely tied at the top to keep flies, vermin and smell at a minimum. Please do not just put them in the bin without bagging them up. FREE food waste bags are available from the housing office. Just ask at reception or give us a call.

Larger items need to be taken to your local recycling and waste centre, or arrange for pick up/collection. You can also gift items to an upcycling centre or charity.

After you have recycling correctly, there should be very little that goes into the general waste bin.

Saying NO to Fly-Tipping
Fly-tipping is the ILLEGAL dumping of rubbish and doesn’t just look bad, it’s also a serious health hazard. Every year, it costs Council Taxpayers around £300,000 to clear waste dumped illegally on public land.

Fly-tipping is not just large items dumped at the side of the road, it is also rubbish left at the side of your bin on the pavement, it’s on the increase in Brunswick and we need to stamp it out. ALL rubbish must go in a bin or in the recycling.

S4B also incur a cost to remove waste, so if we can reduce this cost, the money saved could be better spent on improving your homes and the community. We all need to play our part in keeping our neighbourhood clean and safe,

Please report fly tipping as soon as possible to us on 0300 555 0128, send a WhatsApp message to 07500 065 270, send an email to info@s4bmanchester.co.uk. Alternatively you can report it directly to Manchester City Council and search ‘fly tipping’.

How to report it:

  • Safety first – do not confront fly-tippers.
  • Do not look for clues in the waste yourself, as there may be harmful items hidden in it.
  • Keep any notes you make at the time, even scribbled ones, which can be very valuable as evidence.
  • Take photos but only if it is safe to do so.

Each month we will enter all reports in a prize draw for the chance to win £50. All valid reports will be sent to Manchester City Council (MCC) for them to take action against the perpetrators. If any reports lead to prosecution, there is also the chance to win a further £50.

Anyone found guilty of fly-tipping face a fine of up to £50,000 and/or even a prison sentence.
