On Tuesday, 29th July, over 200 residents flocked to Gartside Gardens in Brunswick, Manchester, for an afternoon of Play in the Park with free fun and games for all the family.
The event delivered by the Brunswick Tenants and Residents Association (BTARA) and supported by S4B offered an opportunity for local people to come together and take part in a range of activities, such as four in a row, skittles and noughts and crosses. It forms part of a series of events hosted by S4B over the last twelve months to bring together local residents in celebration of ten years of the regeneration of the Brunswick neighbourhood.
S4B Neighbourhood & PFI Contract Manager, Ross Hemmings, said: “Last year marked ten years in the regeneration of the Brunswick neighbourhood which has delivered transformative change, with investment in existing properties and development of new homes. Alongside this we are proud to work with local partners to make a positive difference in the area.
“S4B works closely with BTARA throughout the year, and it is fantastic to see what they have achieved, all for the benefit of the Brunswick Community. These events are a great way to bring the community together and showcase the support that is available from our local partners.”
Chair of Brunswick Tenants and Residents Association (BTARA), Nazmina Begum, known locally as Naz, said: “The event was a huge success. The money we make from the hiring of the community space at Brunswick Village is what makes events like this possible – every penny is ploughed back into the community to put events like this on. We say it’s a free event, but some things still do come at a cost and without the funds it simply would not be possible.
“Thank you to everyone who came on the day and to those involved in making it happen. It was a real community effort with everyone pulling together. It was so good to see good old-fashioned fun being had away from a tablet or mobile phone, out in the fresh air. The weather was kind to us and the rain held off – the smiles on everyone’s faces spoke a thousand words”.
Other local partners supported and attended including: MCC, SISTER, Read Manchester, Bold St3p, Manchester University, 422, Manchester Scouts Group, Biffa, Bee Well, Manchester Chinese Centre, Neighbourhood Health Champions and Climate Action, offering visitors a free plant such as tomatoes and peas to take away and grow at home.
