The S4B sunflower growing competition has started and is open to all tenants and residents in Brunswick. No age limit!

Get your FREE sunflower seeds from the S4B housing office reception, plant your seeds it a pot with holes in the bottom for drainage, water well and watch them grow!

Sunflowers are great plants to have in a wildlife-friendly garden. Bees, and sometimes butterflies, love the nectar and feed on the flowers when they’re in full bloom. Then Greenfinches and Goldfinches will munch on the seedheads.

If you don’t have a garden, don’t worry. Sunflowers can be grown in pots if you have a nice bright and sunny balcony or indoor space to put them. We hope you will love the challenge of seeing who can grow the tallest Sunflower!

Take pictures of your sunflowers and send them in to us. Prizes to be won for the tallest sunflowers and we’ll feature the best ones in the newsletter, a gallery on the website and on social media.

Closing date for entries is 31st August and judging will follow shortly after in early September.
