SUMMARY:Holocaust Memorial Day - Bridging Generations
DESCRIPTION:The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2026 is “Bridging Generations\,” an opportunity for everyone to learn from the past and share stories across generations to combat prejudice and build a hopeful future\, focusing on passing survivor testimonies and histories forward as the generation who experienced the Holocaust passes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKey Aspects of the Theme:\n\n\n\n\n\nContinuing Responsibility: \n\nIt emphasizes that remembering the Holocaust and subsequent genocides isn’t just for survivors but for all of us\, including future generations.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearning & Sharing: \n\nEncourages actively listening to and sharing testimonies\, ensuring vital lessons aren’t lost as survivors age.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nConnecting Past & Future: \n\nBuilds a bridge between historical memory and present-day action for a more tolerant world.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHonouring All Victims: \n\nAcknowledges victims who left no descendants and the ongoing impact of inherited trauma\, notes Jewish News.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow it’s Being Observed:\n\n\n\n\n\nEvents: \n\nCommunities\, schools\, and faith groups will hold events focusing on storytelling and remembrance.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLight the Darkness: \nLandmarks across the UK will light up purple at 8 pm on January 27\, 2026\, for a moment of national reflection against hatred\, according to the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.
